Woodworking (Cabinetry, Millwork and Woodworking Pathway)

Wood 1 (Introduction to Woodworking)

This is a one year course designed to give the student knowledge of woodworking hand tools, basic power tools, and selected woodworking machines. Each student will be expected to compile a woodworking notebook; complete several required woodworking exorcises such as squaring lumber, fabricating five basic wood joints, carve a gouge bowl, turn a bowl on a wood lathe, cut out a pattern on the scroll saw, and one assigned construction project. Through lectures, demonstrations, individual and team problem solving activities, the student will develop and integrate basic science and mathematics skills. In addition, each student will select, plan, design, draw, and construct one or more projects of his/her choosing with the approval of the instructor. An emphasis is placed on developing basic employability skills. This course is open to all students.
